What Industry Do I Need?

All the different industries have their upsides and their downsides. This post is all about finding out what kinds of industry you need and how to get it.

Agriculture- Personally I wouldn't even bother with this. It only provides (for the most part) two jobs and they're both low wealth. If you want to have this kind of industry in your city (which again, I highly would not recommend it) place it in less crowded areas and make it a reasonable size. Even if the area isn't highly desirable, this type of industry will pretty much grow and prosper anywhere.

Dirty Industry- This industry is fine for the very beginning of your city. This industry provides a lot of low and medium wealth jobs. I would be cautious of placing this near you city because of its high pollution issues. If you would like to bring this type of industry into your city, just place some medium industrial zones where ever you want.

Manufacturing Industry- Manufacturing industry is probably the best for large cities. The main reason for this is because it provides lots of medium wealth jobs which is the job type that the majority of your people will need in larger cities. It's also is pretty good about pollution. If your city is really need this kind of industry and you don't want dirty industry growing with it, just raise the taxes on dirty industry to discourage them from coming to your city.

High-Tech Industry- This industry should only be encouraged if you need a lot of high wealth jobs. It's great because it provides lots of good jobs to people and doesn't really produce any pollution what so ever. If you need this kind of industry in your city then make sure you place medium or high level industrial zones near your city. This industry loves being close to big buildings and lots of trees/parks. Also, make sure that your desirability for it is at least positive (on the RCI graph). If it isn't you can check out this post to get some ideas to increase the desirability for that particular subject.

No matter what industry you need, make sure to always place it near the border of your city. This way your industries will always have a low freight trip distance. (Be sure to connect roads out of your city as well.)
